Little did she know that she would be breaking the national shot put record in a little over a month after her maiden Olympic outing.

Guirong was 22 years old when she gained her citizenship and moved to Singapore after the introduction of the foreign talent scheme. Around the same time, she went on to score both gold and silver for the discus and shot put events of the Southeast Asian Games respectively.

Perhaps her most well-known victory is when she bagged three gold medals from the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Another amazing feat is her win against China at the women’s singles event at the Asian Cup 2015 where the title was previously held for over seven years by the Chinese athletes.
